Everybody is a winner
Posted by Niall Harbison
I entered a competition a couple of days ago to win a mobile phone from all round Irish tech legend Pat Phelan(make sure to head over to his blog for more gifts from Santa Pat this Xmas) a couple of days ago and literally danced a jig around my apartment when I found out that I had been randomly selected to win the slick new Nokia E63. I was so excited and Pat was on to me in minutes looking for my address and saying he would post it to me and my mind was rushing with ideas of how to put the phone to good use with photos etc! Then I had a thought……

I have a perfectly good blackberry (it is well bashed up but still works nicely) that I use all the time and not being the best at adapting to new technology I would lose a lot of time learning how to use this beautiful phone and it would probably be wasted on me! My blackberry is starting to get old but it still lets me take photos, make calls, email and most importantly twitter. So I am going to hold on to my old blackberry and hopefully give some people that need a boost of morale at this time of year more than me a bit of a lift with all of your guy’s help. I want to raise some money for a good cause (The Kids At Crumlin Children’s Hospital who are suffering from cancer this Xmas) from this incredible slice of luck I have had today and there are 3 ways how the phone can be passed on to you…..
1.You can bid 5 Euros to enter the competition with the winner being decided in the same way as Pat choose his winner. Hopefully we could raise 1000 Euros and just think what a miserable amount of money 5 Euros actually is! Enter for 5 Euros here…. (Please email me your website/blog that you would like me to link to Niall.harbison@ifoods.tv as I will be link up all entrants at bottom of post)
2.You can make a bid on the phone here on Ebay with the bid closing next Sunday. The highest bid will win
3.If neither of the above methods raise more than the 400 Euros the phone is valued at I will give it directly to one of families who are unfortunate enough to have one of their children struggling with cancer this Xmas.
Whichever option makes more money from 1 or 2 will be the one that gets the phone.
If you think that you will struggle to afford 5 Euros this Xmas just cut out 1 pint of beer or a latte and give somebody who is really struggling this Xmas a gift they will never ever forget! And the best thing about it all is that you have an incredibly good chance of winning this slick phone! Winner announced next Sunday.

Great idea Niall!
Have you any contacts in the childrens hospital?
If so would you ask them if they are interested in someone installing public wifi access in the ward for free?

Terrific idea Niall. Like Evert above I’m wondering too if you have connections with the hospital? I’d like to offer my services to install and train people there on a video calling system so that the kids can make better contact with their friends and relatives who can’t visit (note: offering my services not the equipment but all they need is a low cost PC and webcam)

Hey Niall
Great idea.
Don’t forget, if I win please give the phone to a family in the hospital (of your choosing) or back to the ward to re-raffle..
Whichever you think best.
Thanks for this … its up on my FaceBook page and will blog it later too!
You have a great heart..

Nice idea to help some people less fortunate than most. Love the way you decided to create two revenue streams from it! Very good thinking.
Hope this raises a geansai-load!

Good idea. There are so many people stuggling with health this Christmas. Going to Paypal to donate, will be fun to win but happy to donate anyway.
